BRITISH COLUMBIA SOCIETY OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS Ten Principles of Privacy Protection
Statement and Purpose
The British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects ("BCSLA") respects an individual's right to privacy and to the protection of his or her personal information. We are committed to meeting the privacy standards established under the Personal Information Protection Act. To safeguard and protect the personal information provided to us, BCSLA adheres to the following ten principles of privacy protection:
Principle 1- Accountability
We are responsible for maintaining and protecting the personal information that we hold or is under our control. In fulfilling this mandate, we have designated the BCSLA Registrar to act as our Privacy Officer who is accountable for BCSLA's compliance with this policy.
Principle 2- Identifying Purposes
The purposes for which personal information are collected from you shall be identified before or at the time the information is collected.
Principle 3- Consent
Your knowledge and consent (express or implied) are required for the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information except where required or permitted by law.
Principle 4- Limiting Collection
The personal information we collect from you is limited to those details necessary for the purposes identified before or at the time the information is collected, and we only collect this information through fair and lawful means.
Principle 5- Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention
We will not use or disclose your personal information for any purpose other than the purposes for which it was collected, unless you provide us with consent to do otherwise or when it is required or permitted by law. We will not retain your personal information any longer than required to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected or as may be required by law.
Principle 6- Accuracy
We will make all reasonable efforts to maintain your personal information as accurate, complete and current as is necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected.
Principle 7- Safeguarding Personal Information
We will protect your personal information with safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of that information. These safeguards include physical, administrative and electronic security measures.
Principle 8- Openness
We will answer questions you may have regarding our privacy policies and procedures and our management of your personal information.
Principle 9- Access
If you require details on your personal information at BCSLA, please send us a written request. Upon receipt of this request, we will inform you of the existence, use and disclosure of your personal information and will provide access to that information, except where the law requires or permits us to deny access. We will provide you information within a reasonable time period and provide an explanation if we are unable to meet your request.

Terms of Use
BCSLA Terms of Use - Online
The British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA) is a professional organization whose members are registered Landscape Architects, licensed to practice in British Columbia. The Society was established by the enactment of the Architects (Landscape) Act in 1968 as a self-governing professional organization whose objectives include the furtherance and maintenance of proper standards of professional practice.
BCSLA.org and Sitelines.org
Persons and organizations working in fields related to landscape architecture that wish to advise our members of their services can become an Affiliate of the BCSLA. Any individual, organization, institution, or business with an affiliation to the Principles and Practice of Landscape Architecture may apply as a BCSLA Affiliate and upon acceptance, will receive a listing on our websites (www.bcsla.org and www.sitelines.org). To refer to your company as a BCSLA Affiliate on your website, you must be a current BCSLA Affiliate, and must provide a link to the BCSLA websites.
Social Media - Facebook and Twitter
In addition, the BCSLA currently holds two active social media accounts: www.facebook.com/BCSocietyofLandscapeArchitects and www.twitter.com/#!/BCSLA. The purpose of these two social media accounts is to spread the awareness of the BCSLA and the Landscape Architecture profession to industry professionals and to the public.
Those who wish to submit material (images, events, videos, web-articles) which may be of interest to “Fans” and “Followers” of the BCSLA may send requests to office@bcsla.org, Re: Social Media. Please note that the BCSLA adheres to the Ten Principles of Privacy Protection which can be viewed at,www.bcsla.org/pdf.htm/privacy.pdf. Individuals who submit material are responsible for obtaining permission for use of photographs with photographers for publication and reproduction by the BCSLA. We will provide proper photography and other project credits when using photos, but will not assume responsibility for any copyrights or photography fees.
The BCSLA welcomes feedback and comments on information and links posted on BCSLA’s Facebook and Twitter accounts. Once posted, the BCSLA reserves the right to delete submissions which contain:
· Material which infringes on the rights of any third party, including intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights.
· Material that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, slanderous, hateful, or embarrassing to any other person or entity as determined by the BCSLA in its sole discretion.
· Advertisements or solicitations of business.
· Chain letters or pyramid schemes, duplicate comments, or "spam".
· Comments which fail to conform with “BCSLA Terms of Use – Online”.
The BCSLA also reserves the right to delete any comments posted BCSLA’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, regardless of whether such comments violate “BCSLA Terms of Use – Online”.
Please note that the comments expressed on BCSLA’s Facebook and Twitter accounts do not reflect the opinions and position of the BCSLA or its officers and employees. Finally, by commenting on and/or by submitting material to be posted on BCSLA’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, you agree that you will indemnify the BCSLA against any damages, losses, liabilities, judgments, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees and costs) arising out of a claim by a third party relating to any material or comments submitted.
