THE SANCTUARY AT HASTINGS PARK

East Hastings at Renfrew, Vancouver, BC

Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg 2000

The design of Hastings Park expresses the community’s commitment to sustainable management of stormwater which begins its journey in the Italian Rain Gardens where it flows in surface channels, and animates gargoyles and water basins on its way to the Sanctuary pond. The Sanctuary features a daylighted historic stream that collects and channels runoff from the park site.. Birmingham & Wood Architects designed the two bridge structures that span the water courses in the sanctuary area, one of which has since become an icon of Hastings Park.
