As Canada’s first LEED Gold Neighbourhood, the Olympic Village was designed and built in less than four years, providing a network of socially integrated courtyards that give residents access to their own “back yards” in a highly urban environment. The plants connect people with their food sources, attract pollinators, and contribute to the health of Vancouver’s ecosystem, while a rainwater collection and treatment system is used for irrigation, water features, and toilets. Vancouver's Urban Agriculture guidelines are now based on the principles used at The Olympic Village.
