SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY

Burnaby Mountain

John Lantzius & Associates 1968 /
Vaughan Durante 1980

When Erickson/Massey architects won the competition for the design of Simon Fraser University, John Lantizus & Associates joined the team as the landscape architects, and developed Erickson's concept for the site as a 'dialogue' between a building and it setting. The classroom block, constructed in 1980, saw Don Vaughan involved again, this time extending the native forest between the buildings, and creating the sheltered reflecting pool which has since become a striking feature when viewed from the North Concourse.
