BURNS BOG HYDROLOGICAL RESTORATION

(nearest address) 7200 80th Street, Delta

City of Delta, Landscape Architect Sarah Howie

Burns Bog is a globally unique raised bog with significant carbon stores and important habitat for wildlife. The City of Delta has been restoring Burns Bog since 2001, and as of 2018, more than 450 dams have been built in the drainage ditches throughout the bog. These dams help to raise the water table and re-start the critical peat-forming and carbon storage processes. A landscape architect with the City of Delta has been managing the hydrological restoration of this wetland since 2005.
